Police looking for 'person of interest' in Phoenix shooting death of 15-year-old girl

Phoenix police said the 15-year-old victim was sleeping in her bed when she was shot last September.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department is looking for a "person of interest" in relation to the death of a 15-year-old girl who was fatally shot while asleep in her bedroom

A 17-year-old was recently taken into custody for the incident. Police said Isaac Orozco was booked into a juvenile detention center after he was indicted for felony charges of second-degree murder in relation to GiaGinette Brown's death last September.  The teen suspect is being charged as an adult.

Brown appears to have been the victim of a drive-by shooting near 107th Avenue and Camelback Road. The teenager was found on the morning of Sept. 3 in her bed with a fatal gunshot wound.

Police officials have previously said they believe the victim's house was targeted but Brown may have unintentionally been struck by the gunfire.

Police said investigators are now seeking the whereabouts of 16-year-old Jason "J.J." Richards in connection with Brown's death.

Brown's family have said the victim was a varsity cheerleader at West Point High School in Avondale.

A $2,000 reward is offered for information on Richards.

*Editor's Note: Though 12News does not typically identify juveniles, police have released the 16-year-old's identity in an effort to further their investigation.*
