PHOENIX — A 29-year-old man was seriously injured in Phoenix on Thursday after he was shot by officers after police said he reached for a handgun that was tucked in his waistband.
The Phoenix Police Department said the man, who was not immediately identified, was shot after two officers responded to a home near Seventh Street and Baseline Road around 9:30 p.m. to a call of shots fired and loud music.
Officers arrived on scene and found the suspect in the front yard. The department said as officers began giving commands, the man reached for his gun.
Both officers fired and hit the suspect, the department said.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition. His gun was recovered at the scene, the department said.
No one else was injured.
