PD: Man found dead on train tracks was not killed by a train

A dead body was found on a set of train tracks near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Saturday. Police say the victim was not killed by a train.

PHOENIX — A man was found dead on a set of railroad tracks in central Phoenix on Saturday morning, but it does not appear that he was killed by a train, according to the Phoenix Police Department

Officers were called to a set of train tracks near 20th and Jackson Streets, just northwest of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, at about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday due to a call about an accident involving a train.

When officers got to the scene, they found a dead man lying on the tracks. Detectives were then called to the scene to investigate.

Police say their investigation shows the man had injuries that were not consistent with a train crash, meaning he was not killed by a train.

The medical examiner's office has taken possession of the man's body and will perform an investigation to see how he died.

Phoenix police are still working to identify the man who was killed. If you have any information on this case, you are asked to call Phoenix police at (602) 262-6151 or Silent Witness at (480) WITNESS (948-6377) to submit your tip anonymously.
