Police identify car theft suspect who led police chase across Phoenix, killed K9

The two suspects, both in their 20s, lead police on a high-speed chase and carjacked multiple people at gunpoint.

PHOENIX - Police identified the suspects involved in a car chase and string of carjackings that ended in a barricade situation Tuesday where a K9 was killed.

Police arrested the driver in the police chase, 27-year-old Jairo Adair Contreras Quintero and his passenger, 24-year-old Laura Dagnino Tuesday.

Dagnino was arrested after police successfully stopped the suspect car with spike strips near 29th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Quinter fled on foot into a home and barricaded himself for several hours.

Quinter ran into an unoccupied home and hid in an attic, police said. At one point, he fell through the ceiling. Police released a K9 named Bane into the home, where he was critically injured. He later died from those injuries.

Police eventually entered the home and took Quinter into custody. Medics transported Quinter to a nearby hospital and he was released and booked into jail Monday.

Quinter is facing charges of armed robbery, car theft, weapons violation, killing a service animal, animal cruelty and unlawful flight from law enforcement on top of an outstanding warrant for a previous car theft. Dagnino had an outstanding warrant for prior drug charges. She is facing new charges of armed robbery and car theft.
