Phoenix PD vehicle hit by driver experiencing a medical emergency

PHOENIX — A driver has been taken to the hospital after experiencing a medical emergency and hitting a police cruiser in a parking lot in west Phoenix, according to authorities.

The officer was uninjured, the Phoenix Police Department said.

The Phoenix Fire Department said the crash happened Monday afternoon near 83rd Avenue and Camelback Road. The driver who experienced a medical emergency was taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to police, the crash was on private property. An unmarked police vehicle was struck during the incident.

"A citizen was driving in the parking lot and had a medical emergency," police said in a news release. "During this medical emergency, his vehicle collided with the unmarked police car."

An update on the driver's condition is not available.
