PHOENIX — Maricopa County Justice of the Peace Frank Conti died Tuesday while he was on vacation in Canada.

The 61-year-old suffered a fatal heart attack.

“We all knew we could count on Frank whenever necessary," Presiding Justice of the Peace Anna Huberman said in a statement Wednesday. "The leadership at his court was outstanding. This is a terrible tragedy not only for his home family but also for his court family.”

Conti was first elected justice of the peace in 2008 for the Dreamy Draw precinct located in north Phoenix. He was subsequently elected three more times and had no opponent going into November's general election.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will be evaluating the process for replacing Conti in the coming the weeks.
