Phoenix hits 116 degrees Tuesday, making it the hottest day of 2018

The Valley is under an excessive heat warning until Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Phoenix has set a new record high for 2018 at 116 degrees Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

It is now tied for the hottest July 24 in Phoenix history.

Monday afternoon, the NWS recorded a high of 115, then the highest temperature of the year.

An excessive heat warning is in effect for much of the Valley until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Temperatures are again expected to top 115 degrees Wednesday.

Approximately 4,000 people in the West Valley are without power in the heat, according to SRP's outage map.
