The Piggie Poo Rescue in north Phoenix is getting back on its feet after a devastating robbery. The non-profit organization is dedicated to helping the lives of displaced guinea pigs and other small exotic pets.
After a burglary on May 2, the shelter was left reeling from the intrusion. No guinea pigs were hurt and no visible damage was done to the property, but the owner said she still feels violated.
"The cash box did have financial information and bank account information," Amanda Ketola said. "We had to work really diligently with Chase Bank to ensure there was no fraud on the rescue's bank accounts."
Phoenix police and the Piggie Poo Rescue are still looking for the person(s) responsible for the burglary. In the meantime, a generous donation allowed the shelter to secure the property with a security system.
"We had a gentlemen -- his name is Paul -- he donated a significant amount so we could get ADT out here to update our system and to monitor that for a full year," Ketola said.
Piggie Poo Rescue is located in north Phoenix at 1610 East Bell Road.
