Phoenix crash leaves man dead

A man driving near 27th Avenue and McDowell Road struck a pole Thursday night.

PHOENIX — A man is dead after a late-night crash in Phoenix on Thursday, the city's police department said.

Around 11:40 p.m. Thursday officers responded to a crash scene near 27th Avenue and McDowell and found a vehicle with an injured male driver. Officials said the man struck a pole while driving.

Phoenix fire crews arrived on scene, extricated the man and transported him to the hospital. According to Phoenix police, he did not survive his injuries.

The identity of the man was not immediately released. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
