PHOENIX — A pedestrian is dead after he was struck by a Phoenix city bus overnight on Tuesday, city police told 12News.
Officers were called to Central Avenue and Van Buren Street for reports of a crash involving a person and a bus. Officers found a man with serious injuries when they arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, officials with the Phoenix Police Department said.
A preliminary investigation showed that as the bus was turning right onto Central Avenue, the man was trying to get the bus to stop by banging on the doors and walking alongside the bus, officials said. The driver did not stop because there was not a bus stop.
The man lost his footing, police said, and fell onto the road where he was hit by the bus, police said.
The victim's identity hasn't been released at this time.
