PEORIA, Ariz. — A person was hospitalized after a fire broke out at a home in Peoria, fire officials said.

On Thursday morning, crews responded to reports of a fire near 91st Avenue and Deer Valley Road. Once crews arrived on the scene, they found a home on fire.

The was reportedly started by a barbecue and then spread to the nearby grass, officials said. Rural Metro officials said a person was transported to the county burn center for possible second-degree burns to the hands.

The identity of the person or their condition wasn't immediately released. Officials said the home appears to be a total loss.

The investigation into the fire is ongoing.
