Forget taking down your Christmas lights at the end of the season

Permanent Christmas lights are gaining popularity for homeowners who don't want to reinstall their holiday decorations or are looking for a year round alternative.

PHOENIX — Ed Kernan doesn't want to get up on the roof anymore to put up his Christmas lights.

"I'm getting older," he said, standing outside his house. "I really don't like getting on the roof."

His wife helped put up the lights for a while, but Kernan doesn't want her to get up on the roof either. That's why he's having permanent lighting installed on the outside of his house.

Kernan used a company called Arizona Outdoor Lights to install LED lighting under the eaves of his house.

The lights are installed in a metal track that's mounted to the eaves. The LED lights are plugged into a hole in the metal track.

Owner of Arizona Outdoor Lights Kristin Cantiberos said these lights are more popular, especially around the holidays, as people see them installed at their neighbors' houses.

"It's not just Christmas lights, you can use it as security lighting as well," Cantiberos said.

Arizona Outdoor Lights services residential houses, but also commercial ventures, as well.

Once they're installed, the lights are controlled through an app that allows you to manage each individual light. There are also pre-set lighting patterns for every holiday for users to choose from.

While the lights do keep you from climbing up on the roof, they're not cheap. Cantiberos estimates the cost to be about $30 per linear foot of roof line.

But to not put up your own Christmas lights ever again, it's a price many find is worth paying.
