PEORIA, Ariz. — Peoria police officers were involved in a barricade situation at a residence near 75th Avenue and Thunderbird Road on Friday morning.
Police officers responded to a mental health call for service at a residence in Peoria. There was an additional pending call at the same residence for a court order service referencing a man at the residence.
When officers arrived, they called the man, later identified as 43-year-old Judd Williams, on the phone from outside the residence, asking him to come outside, police said. Williams exited the residence carrying a "long gun" and pointed it toward officers, according to police.
Preliminary information from police states Williams pointed the gun at the officers and two officers fired off at least one round each at the man. Williams was hit by at least one of the rounds, police said, and sustained a minor injury.
Williams returned inside the house and was there for several hours, refusing to come out, police said.
Williams was then taken into custody by the Special Assignments Unit and the K-9 Unit several hours later, police said. Williams was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and no officers or bystanders were injured.
Glendale Police is the lead investigating agency for this investigation as part of the West Valley Incident Response Team, police said. Williams will be processed and later booked into the Maricopa County Jail on several charges to include aggravated assault.
The officers involved in the incident were wearing body-worn cameras, police said.
