PHOENIX - Six people and two dogs were displaced by a house fire in west Phoenix Saturday.

A fire that started in a vehicle in the driveway of a home near Indian School Road and 91st Avenue spread to the attic of the home, according to Phoenix fire officials.

Neighbors who saw what was happening called 911 and knocked on the door of the home to make sure the people inside got out safely.

Dalleon Johnson was inside the home when it caught fire and credits his neighbors for his whole family getting out safely.

“They’re like, 'Fire!' I’m like, 'Fire, where?'" Johnson said. "As soon as I walked out I immediately saw my car engulfed.”

Firefighters were eventually able to contain the blaze to the garage, but all of the residents of the house were displaced.

“It’s one of those things you see on the news and you’re like, this will never happen to me and then you wake up and this happens,” Johnson said.

No injuries were reported.

The Red Cross and the Phoenix Fire Crisis Response Team are helping those displaced by the fire.
