PHOENIX — Phoenix Police have released new details on a crash in west Phoenix that killed a man on Friday evening.
Police say the crash happened at the intersection of 83rd Avenue and Osborn Road just after 6:00 p.m. Officers found a man, now identified as 29-year-old Giovany Escobedo, who had been hit by a car.
He was seriously injured and treated by firefighters at the scene but passed away.
Police say Escobedo was crossing the street in a crosswalk when he was hit, but it was when the signal said to not cross the road.
Escobedo fell after being hit by the first car and police say he was then hit by an unknown number of other cars.
The man who was driving the first car that hit Escobedo stayed at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment.

A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car in west Phoenix Friday night, Phoenix police said. Several cars were involved in the crash.
The crash happened in the area of 83rd Avenue and Osborn Road, which has been blocked off while police investigate. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the man stayed at the scene. according to police. Two other vehicles were involved in the crash and police said one of them fled the scene.
Detectives responded to the area and are taking over the investigation. There is no word as to when the roadway will reopen.
