GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Goodyear fire officials said reports of a structure fire became a hazmat situation at a business Saturday evening.
First responders were called to what appears to be a health club near McDowell Road and N. Bullard Avenue around 6:30 p.m. for reports of a fire. When crews arrived, they discovered a chlorine leak at the location.

The business was evacuated and the leak was secured, officials said. No injuries were reported.
Chlorine can cause eye and nose irritation, sore throat, and cough at low concentrations, according to the CDC. Longer exposure to the gas can cause irritation of the upper respiratory tract and accumulation of fluid in the lungs, which can contribute to a sensation of choking.
Units will clear the building of any residual gas before leaving the scene.
