'This is a national crisis': Chaparral High becomes latest Valley campus to be targeted by threat

Scottsdale police chief said the frequent number of these school threats could make these incidents a form of "domestic terrorism."

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz — Scottsdale police officers have found "no credible threat" after Chaparral High School was put under lockdown protocols Wednesday morning.

At about 9 a.m., police received a 911 call from someone claiming people had been taken hostage at bathroom on the Chaparral campus.

Numerous police units were dispatched to the Scottsdale campus to conduct a primary search of the campus and no threat to students or staff was found. No injuries have been reported.

The entire high school has been cleared and no hostages were found. Police officials said no arrests have been made.

Scottsdale Police Chief Jeff Walther said the frequent number of school threats reported in recent weeks could make these incidents a form of "domestic terrorism."

"This is a national crisis," said Walther, who called upon federal officials to look closer at these "calculated" threats targeting schools across the country.

Several police agencies and school districts throughout Arizona have been responding to social media threats made over the last couple of weeks.

Walther said his agency will continue to respond to these types of incident no matter how frequent they become and warned that anyone found to be responsible for making these threats will be criminally charged.
