No arrests made 1 week after shooting at Tempe mall

The shooting occurred on the evening of Sep. 13 at the Arizona Mills mall when an argument broke out between two large groups of people, police say.

One week after an active shooting in Tempe, police have not made any arrests.

The Tempe Police Department held a news conference on Sep. 19 to provide updates on a shooting that occurred at Arizona Mills mall on Friday, Sep. 13 around 7:30 p.m. in the food court area.

Police said two large groups of people in the food court area engaged in an argument which led to the shooting. No one was reported injured, police said.

Police Sergeant and Public Information Officer Ryan Cook said it was "miraculous" that no one was injured during the shooting.

"We are thankful that no one was injured that night," Cook said during the news conference.

Tempe police did not say how many suspects they are looking for and did not confirm they know how many suspects there are.

When asked how many suspects the police are looking for, Police Sergeant and Public Information Officer Ryan Cook said the police are asking for the community's help in identifying suspects.

"We need the families, " Cook said. "We need the people who were at the mall, young and old."

If you or someone you know took photos or videos while at Arizona Mills on Sep. 13 from 7 to 8 p.m., Tempe police ask that you send those images and videos to the police department, along with any information you may have about the incident.

Police also said they do not yet know the extent of the damages to surrounding businesses caused by the shooting.
