PHOENIX — The City of Phoenix has approved a multi-million-dollar deal with the University of Arizona Health Sciences to develop a 7-story biomedical research center in the downtown region.
During Wednesday's city council meeting, an agreement was approved for UArizona Health Sciences to construct a 200,000-square-foot facility near 7th and Fillmore Streets.
The Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies will focus on researching novel strategies for preventing and treating various diseases.
The deal will involve the city paying an estimated $20 million in support of the project.
“CAMI will be an exciting addition to the downtown area,” said Councilwoman Kesha Hodge Washington in a statement. “The Phoenix Bioscience Core is part of our community, and CAMI aligns with our larger vision for growth by combining health sciences academics and research with community engagement and workforce development."
The project's groundbreaking is expected to take place this fall.
