PHOENIX - For kids, summer is the best season!
For parents, it's great to have the young ones around, but there's more to figure out during the summer because the kids aren't in school all day.
One part of the equation for parenting in the summer is making sure your kids are getting a healthy lunch. That's easier said than done for some parents, whether it's because they are at work or because their child normally has lunch provided at school.
There are several programs in Arizona that can help make sure all kids are getting a proper lunch.
One such organization is the Arizona Nutrition Network, which partners with health departments and school districts to promote healthy eating and nutrition habits among kids in the state.
The AZNN has put together a map of all the state's locations for kids 18 and younger to get a free lunch, along with addresses and phone numbers for each.
You can search for the nearest location based on your address or ZIP code.
You can also call the National Hunger Hotline at 1-866-348-6479 (3-HUNGRY) or 1-877-842-6273 (8-HAMBRE) for Spanish speakers, or you can send a text with the nearest location -- just text "Food" or "Comida" to 877-877 and you'll get a text back with info on nearby sites.
Different sites may serve food at different times, so be sure to call ahead and check in with the location you plan to use.
