PHOENIX - Funeral services for, Dr. Steven Pitt, the first victim in a string of murders, were held on Monday.
Pitt was a prominent forensic psychiatrist who contributed to numerous high profile investigations, including the JonBenet Ramsey investigation, the Columbine Massacre and the Baseline Killer.
“Dr. Steven Pitt was a friend of justice, an advocate for the truth, and fiercely committed to helping people understand the impact of mental health issues as they relate to the civil and criminal world,” said an unidentified lieutenant with Phoenix police.
Pitt’s two sons also spoke about the man who raised them.
“My father’s outlook on life, it was simple: He’d say, ‘Try your hardest. Don’t say ‘can’t’, be nice and have fun,'” said Asa Pitt, one of Steven’s two sons.
The 59-year-old’s family describes him as funny, generous, hardworking, articulate and even a man who would schedule time for fun.
“It’s not just a brother bereaving a loss, as you know, he was a very, very, very, very special guy,” said Pitt’s brother, Darryl.
Pitt was also remembered as a great companion to his fiancé, Natalie, and a professional who devoted his life to the pursuit of justice.
