GOODYEAR, Ariz. — A motorcyclist has succumbed to injuries sustained Tuesday after getting into a collision with a Goodyear police car, police officials said.
First responders were dispatched to the area of Estrella Parkway and Van Buren Street for reports of a crash involving a police vehicle and a motorcycle.
A man on the motorcycle was taken to the hospital in critical condition and a police officer was also transported for minor injuries, Goodyear police said.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has been asked to investigate the incident.
MCSO said Wednesday that the officer was responding to an emergency call when the motorcycle struck the front left side of the GYPD vehicle. The motorcyclist later died from his injuries and has been identified as 38-year-old Jacob Vela, MCSO said.
No evidence of impairment has been found, the sheriff's office said.
A second collision involving two vehicles occurred in the same area shortly after the first crash. Up to three people sustained minor injuries in that incident.
