MESA, Ariz. — Two people died after a crash on Sept. 27 at Country Club Drive and Iron Avenue in Mesa, Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said.
First responders were called to the area near the US 60 for reports that four vehicles were involved in a crash and one had caught fire.
According to early reports, a pickup truck hit another car that was stopped at a red light on the Country Club Drive off-ramp. The crash pushed that car into another vehicle nearby and debris from the crash hit a fourth vehicle.
Two people in the car that was hit died at the scene of the crash, DPS said. They have been identified as 48-year-old David Ortiz De Jesus and 46-year-old Yesenia Morales De Castillo, both from Phoenix.
The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe impairment was involved.
The pickup truck driver, identified as Brett Quadlin, was later booked into jail and is facing charges of manslaughter and endangerment.
The driver of one of the secondary vehicles was taken to the hospital. Their condition is currently unknown.
Crews from Mesa, Gilbert and Tempe fire and medical responded to the crash.
