Motorcyclist dies following crash in Tempe

Impairment or other contributing factors are still being investigated, police say.

TEMPE, Ariz. — A person is dead following a crash in Tempe on Friday evening, police said. The area will be closed for the investigation.

Tempe police officers responded to the area near University Drive and 52nd Street just before 9 p.m. in reference to a crash involving a car and a motorcycle.

The motorcycle driver was transported to the hospital and later died of his injuries.

The cause of collision, impairment and other contributing factors are still being investigated, police said. 

The area will have an "extended closure" for the investigation, police said.

The identity of the motorcyclist or the driver was not released.
