Michael Phelps and fiancee, Nicole Johnson, are proud parents of a baby boy.
The Olympic swimmer announced the birth of Boomer Robert Phelps on May 5. Phelps skipped a meet in Atlanta because of the baby's impending arrival.
Phelps, who has won 22 Olympic medals, has said he's excited to have the baby with him in Rio. Phelps has said this is his last Olympics.
In April at an Arena Pro Swim Series meet in Mesa, Phelps spoke of visiting the doctor with Johnson.
“It’s kind of funny because we can kind of tell where his butt is, where his feet are, kind of like where he’s sitting in her stomach,” Phelps said, smiling. “I remember the first ultrasound we went to; it literally looked like a little, tiny thing. Now, we can see every bone in his body, all the details. It’s been pretty amazing to watch, pretty incredible to watch his growth so far.”
