Mesa Police: Man fatally struck after running into roadway

Police said the crash happened at the intersection of Main Street and Recker Road in Mesa.

MESA, Ariz. — A man was fatally struck by a car after running into a Mesa roadway Tuesday morning, an official with the city police department said.

The crash happened at the intersection of Main Street and Recker Road when the 41-year old man ran across the east/west lanes of traffic as the lights turned green for those lanes, police said.

Two of the eastbound lanes were occupied, and the third was empty. A car driving through the open lane struck the man, and he later died at the hospital. The driver reportedly couldn't see him because of the other cars.
