MESA, Ariz. - A drunken argument over music left a man dead Friday night in Mesa.

Sheldon Sturgill, 41, shot and killed his roommate at their apartment near Baseline and Ellsworth roads, then called police, according to court documents.

Sturgill said he had been drinking when he and his roommate began arguing about music that was playing. He told investigators that his roommate punched him in the face, so he walked to his room, grabbed his gun and shot him, leaving him in the bathroom.

Arriving officers found Sturgill outside the apartment, unarmed, with a cut on his forehead. He told them that he knew his actions were wrong.

In a police interview, Sturgill admitted that he shot his roommate four times and did not render aid.

He faces one count of second-degree murder.
