A fire that started in the garage of a home was nearly contained Thursday.
Crews responded to a first-alarm fire near Recker and McDowell roads. All occupants escaped the house and no injuries were reported, Mesa Fire and Medical Public Information Officer Forrest Smith said in a release.
The fire caused the garage roof to collapse. Additional crews were called in to fight the fire to keep it from spreading to neighboring homes.
The cause of the fire is unknown but it appears the fire started in the garage.
