A member of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office North Valley Posse faces a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge after a domestic violence incident.
The sheriff's office said that Phoenix police officers arrested Keith Mendivil Friday and booked on the misdemeanor charge.
Mendivil had been a member of the posse since 2016, but MCSO said it was removing Mendivil from the program after his arrest.
The volunteer program itself has also been under a microscope recently after an audit revealed that sex and drug offenders, as well as domestic violence convicts, were among its ranks. MCSO said earlier this month that those offenders had been removed from the program.
The audit also showed only four of its 235 members who were cleared to carry guns actually had the qualifications required to do so.
MCSO blamed the oversight on poor record-keeping under former sheriff Joe Arpaio, who fostered the posse program.
Last month, Sheriff Paul Penzone suspended the program's operations after another audit determined at least 50 MCSO weapons had gone missing. Penzone announced last week that posse members in Sun City West could return to patrol soon.
