One of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's detention officers has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an inmate. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Thursday that Detention Officer Zackary James Anthony, 27, was working at the Lower Buckeye Jail psychiatric unit on August 8 when an inmate was being uncooperative. The inmate also managed to obscure the camera view inside his cell.

After refusing to be handcuffed and removed from his cell, officers, including Anthony, entered the cell, the Sheriff's Office said. That's when the alleged assault on the inmate took place.

A video taken by another camera as well as interviews with officers provided details of the incident, the Sheriff's Office said.

Arpaio said the department developed probable cause to arrest Anthony for aggravated assault. The injured inmate, who was not identified by the Sheriff's Office, has a broken jaw and was being treated at a local hospital.

The inmate has since been released from custody.

Anthony, according to the Sheriff's Office, has worked for MCSO since November 2009.
