PHOENIX — A man is dead following a house party in west Phoenix, police said.
Phoenix police officers responded to a large party call at a house near Camelback Road and 51st Avenue at approximately 2:37 a.m on Sunday. When officers arrived, they found a “chaotic scene” with hundreds of people running away from the home.
Officers then found a man, later identified as 23-year-old Carlos Vences Jr., with gunshot wounds. Vences was taken to the hospital by the Phoenix Fire Department, but succumbed to his injuries and died, police said.
Detectives are investigating and interviewing “dozens” of witnesses. Investigators believe other witnesses at the party have knowledge of what led up to the shooting, as well as the person or people who were involved, police said.
Anyone with information regarding the identification of the suspect or suspects are “strongly encouraged” by police to call Silent Witness at 480-Witness or 480-Testigo. All tips stay anonymous.
