Man shot, killed by teenager at birthday party in West Valley

Police say they responded to reports of shots fired around 2:45 a.m. Sunday near 91st Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road. Here are the latest details.

PHOENIX — A 22-year-old man has died after being shot by a teenager at a birthday party in the West Valley early Sunday morning, according to the Phoenix Police Department

The department said they were called to a home on the 3000 block of South 93rd Avenue at about 2:45 a.m. on Sunday due to shots being fired. 

When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot at least once. Firefighters soon got to the scene and pronounced the man dead. The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Luis Angel Carranza. 

Officers were able to take a suspect, a 16-year-old boy, into custody. He has been booked into the juvenile detention center and is facing a murder charge. 

After speaking with witnesses, officers learned that a birthday party was being held at the home. During the party, Carranza and the teen suspect got into a fight that ended with the shooting. 

No other details were released.
