MESA, Ariz. — Two teenagers are in the hospital after they were shot near Mesa, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office announced.
According to police reports, a group of teens had been using a slingshot to shoot large bb's at cars near Ellsworth Road and Main Street around 11:30 p.m. An unknown man pulled up in a Volkswagen Jetta and began to argue with the teens.
During the verbal exchange, the man reportedly shot at the teens, grazing one's stomach and hitting another in the hip with one of his shots, officials said.
The man then fled the scene before police arrived.
The two victims, a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were taken to the hospital by the fire department where they are now being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
MCSO deputies are investigating the shooting.

The program shares unsolved felony case information in multiple ways, including TV, radio and social media.
Anyone who has information on a crime or recognizes a suspect described by the program is asked to call 480-948-6377, go to the program's website online or download the Silent Witness app to provide a tip. The identity of anyone who submits a tip is kept anonymous.
Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case.
Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
