Police: Man shoots armed suspect during Phoenix home invasion

Around 1 a.m. Monday, police responded to the scene near 51st and Southern avenues for a shots fired call.

PHOENIX — A suspect is in the hospital Monday after a shooting incident at a Phoenix home, the city's police department said.

Around 1 a.m. Monday, police responded to the scene near 51st and Southern avenues for a shots fired call. A caller indicated several people were inside a home with guns, police said.

As officers arrived on the scene, they found a man outside the home with at least one gunshot wound. Officials said the man was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Phoenix police said an initial investigation revealed several armed suspects forced their way into the house. A man living in the house then reportedly fired his weapon at the suspects. The gunfire struck the man found with gunshot wounds, authorities said.

The rest of the suspects allegedly escaped from the scene on foot. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
