Police: 17-year-old driver killed in Avondale crash

The crash happened just before 6:30 a.m. near Buckeye Road and 113th Avenue, Avondale police said.

AVONDALE, Ariz. — A 17-year-old boy and 20-year-old man are dead after a crash in Avondale early Saturday morning.

The crash happened near Buckeye Road and 113th Avenue shortly before 6:30 a.m., a spokesperson with the Avondale Police Department said.

Investigators found that two vehicles were driving at a high rate of speed down Buckeye Road when they crossed over the centerline, causing a crash with a third vehicle.

The driver and passenger of one of the two initial vehicles were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Both of them later died. Police haven't released their identities at this time.

Speed is suspected of being a factor in causing the collision.

Buckeye Road was closed between Avondale Boulevard and 113th Avenue as investigators worked to learn more about the cause of the crash, but it reopened at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
