Man hospitalized after shooting incident in Phoenix

Police said the victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in stable condition.

PHOENIX — A man is recovering in the hospital Monday after a shooting incident in Phoenix, the city's police department said.

According to Phoenix police, officers responded to a domestic violence call near 11th and Portland streets Sunday around 10:15 p.m. As officers arrived on scene, they found a man outside an apartment holding a gun. 

The man reportedly dropped the gun after receiving commands from police and was detained, officials said. Officers were then directed to go inside one of the apartments near the scene and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. 

Police said the victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in stable condition. 

During an initial investigation, authorities learned the two men involved in the incident are related. Officials said the pair was involved in a verbal argument leading up to the shooting. 

Officials identified the shooter as 30-year-old Mario Casteneda. He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail and faces multiple felonies including aggravated sssault and weapons violations.
