Phoenix police investigating death of 62-year-old man

A man was found with a fatal injury near I-17 and Thomas Road. He did not survive.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department is investigating how a man ended up walking to a local restaurant with fatal injuries.

Just before 6 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a call at a business near I-17 and Thomas Road. As officers arrived, they found a man with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Emergency crews transported the man to the hospital but he later died from his injuries, authorities said.

Witnesses told police the victim had walked up to a nearby restaurant, claiming to have been shot. Officers found evidence of a possible shooting inside a nearby hotel room.

But it's not clear whether the victim had been shot or stabbed, police said. A postmortem examination is underway to determine exactly how the victim died.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the crime. Javon Lavon Parks III, 33, and Naketra Alexander, 35, were both booked on charges of robbery and murder, officials said.

The victim has been identified as 62-year-old Kenneth Stanford.

The investigation into what led up to Stanford's death is ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to call Phoenix police or Silent Witness if they wish to remain anonymous.
