Prominent forensic psychiatrist found dead after Phoenix shooting

According to police, witnesses heard an altercation outside offices located at 5849 North 71st Street followed by gunfire. Steven Pitt, 59, was found critically wounded outside and pronounced dead at the scene.

PHOENIX - Police are searching for a suspect after a man was found dead at the scene of a shooting near 71st Street and Greenway Road.

Police identified the man Friday as forensic psychiatrist Steven Pitt.

According to police, witnesses heard an altercation outside offices located at 5849 North 71st Street followed by gunfire. Pitt, 59, was found critically wounded outside and pronounced dead at the scene.

Pitt, an expert when it comes to criminals and the criminal mind, had been interviewed several times by 12 News regarding criminal cases in the Valley.

Pitt has worked numerous high-profile cases like the JonBenet Ramsey case and the Columbine massacre. He's worked with police departments all across the country.

The suspect is described as a white man, bald and was last seen wearing a dark-colored hat with a short brim.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (6377). A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered.
