Man arrested after at least 3 dead dogs found on property in Tonopah

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office announced that Animal Crimes Detectives arrested Karl Giddings, 37, earlier this week after two dead dogs were found on a property in Tonopah.

TONOPAH, Ariz - The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office announced that animal crimes detectives arrested Karl Giddings, 37, earlier this week after two dead dogs were found on a property in Tonopah.

Deputies said Giddings was booked into 4th Avenue jail for failing to provide shelter for an animal and for failing to provide medical treatment to an animal.

Sheriff's officials also said Karl's mother, Kathy Giddings, 61, was cited for three misdemeanor counts of failing to provide medical treatment and four misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

According to detectives, deputies received a tip to investigate the welfare of a few animals in Tonopah in March.

When the animal crimes unit arrived at the residence near 379th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, they said they found a dog who appeared to be dying.

The dog was rushed to the vet, where it died four hours later, according to deputies.

At the time, detectives also said they removed an additional four dogs, six tortoises and a donkey from the property.

Detectives said they returned to the property earlier this week, where they found two more dogs and four puppies in poor health -- along with two dead puppies.

The puppies and dogs were seized and taken in for immediate veterinary care.

"We will continue to crack down on the abuse of animals" Sheriff Arpaio said. "We are in the hottest summer months, reaching extreme temperatures fast and will not tolerate any kind of animal abuse."
