PHOENIX - Animal care and control agencies all over the Valley are working overtime to rescue stray animals from Independence Day fireworks displays.
Maricopa County Animal Care and Control shelters are over capacity and took in over 100 stray pets. The shelters will have to create make-shift kennels to be able to hold all the animals.
If you're looking for your pet, shelters say bring any vet records, licenses paperwork and photos to be able to match up your animal.
Pet owners should know that if the Phoenix shelter is overloaded, they will send animals to the Mesa location, so check both. Your missing pet may not be at the shelter closest to you.
"The fourth of July may be past, however monsoon storms are still happening," Melissa Gable, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control public information officer, says. "Thunder is just a scary if not more scary than fireworks. So license ID your pet now, so if your dog does get out or we can reunite you."
