Live racing to return to Turf Paradise in 2024

In a news release, the race track said races are expected to return early next year in January.

PHOENIX — Live racing will resume at Turf Paradise in 2024.

In a news release, the race track said races are expected to return early next year, in January 2024.

Turf Paradise, located at 19th Avenue and Bell Road, will host a 57-day live meet, running from Jan. 29 through May 4.

Turf Paradise's request for a race meet in the new year was approved by the Arizona Racing Commission on Tuesday.

A signed contract between Turf and the Arizona Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (AzHBPA), listed a 4-day-a-week live schedule, Monday through Thursday. Horses will be allowed into the stable area on Dec. 18 and will begin on Dec. 26.

The future of Turf Paradise was in question earlier in the year after the track's owner, Jerry Simms, said back in September that he was going to retire.

“I decided to postpone my retirement because of the many stakeholders here in Arizona that want racing to continue,” said Simms in the news release.
