PHOENIX — A large police presence could be seen at Sierra Linda High School in west Phoenix on Wednesday due to an alleged school threat. Police have apprehended the girl who they believe made the threat.
The campus was placed under lockdown protocols at the request of the Phoenix Police Department, according to the Tolleson Union High School District. 12News learned that the lockdown was lifted Wednesday afternoon.
At about 10:15 a.m. the school resource officer was informed about some online threats. The lockdown was initiated as a precaution at about 11 a.m. after one of the threatening messages contained a photo of a bench resembling benches seen on the high school campus, police said.
Police said officers conducted a search of the campus but there have not been any reports of a shooting nor of any injuries. No weapons were found on school grounds.
"We have a zero-tolerance for anyone who threatens and disrupts our education establishments," the Phoenix Police said in a news release. "Everyone involved will be arrested and booked into jail on serious felony charges."
On Oct. 3, the teen girl was arrested and interviewed about the threat.
The teen admitted to her involvement and stated that the threat was "made to be a joke and got out of hand," police said.
Police said the teen is facing multiple felonies, including terroristic threats, computer tampering and disruption of an educational institution.
