Around 10 people displaced after fire in Tolleson

Crews with several fire departments arrived to find flames coming from a vacant commercial building Thursday evening.

PHOENIX — Crews with the Tolleson, Phoenix and Avondale fire departments worked together to extinguish a large fire in a commercial building in Tolleson on Thursday evening.

The fire happened near 91st Avenue and Van Buren Street just after 5 p.m., according to officials with the Tolleson Fire Department. Crews with several fire departments arrived to find flames coming from a vacant commercial building. They were able to put out the flames with no reported injuries, Tolleson fire officials said.

While the fire was still burning, a large plume of black smoke could be seen from an ADOT camera on Loop 101.

8 to 10 residents in nearby homes were displaced due to a loss of power in the area but all had relatives to stay with, officials said.
