The key to a successful restaurant, according to the head chef and co-owner of La Fonda in Tempe, is learning how to turn bad situations into good ones.
Ray Pedraza and his wife, Janet, would know. They run La Fonda (located 1831 E Baseline Rd, Tempe, AZ), a family business that has been open for almost 50 years.
"La Fonda is a name my grandma actually suggested," said Ray. His mother, Elouise opened the business back in 1967. "It means the end of the trail, so if you're hiking and the trail ends, that's 'la fonda.'"
The business is booming during the weekends and during supper.
"In the winter, we have people getting here as early as 5 p.m.," said Janet, "because it's cooler. In the summer, dinner starts around 7 p.m."
