Mesa gym is a one-stop-shop for those seeking a path to wellness

Bingham Fitness and Health hosted an event on June 15 catered toward patients and specialty programs that negate the "one size fits all" exercise plan.

MESA, Ariz. — The CDC said Alzheimer's disease impacts more 6.5 million people in the United States. That's why one Valley fitness center is focused on reducing the impact and side effects of the disease.

Bingham Fitness and Health hosted an event June 15 catered toward patients and specialty programs that negate the "one size fits all" exercise plan.

Owner Jason Bingham told 12News that while it is, a gym and the goal is to help members get in shape, it's also geared toward beating overall stress and boosting moods to add support.

"This family-owned gym offers a wide range of fitness paths along with personalized programs to fit each and every member's needs, we have rooms for physical therapy, chiropractors and massage options," he explained.

Bingham's years in the industry have given him motivation to bring the Mesa community together with unique programs for every level of fitness.

"In here, we have group fitness classes, plus third-party business can rent the space by the hour to host their own fitness classes. Anne Marie runs the silver sneakers class, and they don't just sit, they're up working," he added.

Part of avoiding health issues is continued functionality and some of that is mental. Bingham is always making sure members have access to additional resources allowing them to find relief at the end of a workout.

"We want people to feel like they're family and that we're here to ensure their success and help them meet their goals. This weekend, people can come in, they can meet and greet and enter a raffle for a one-year membership," he said.

The open house is being held to highlight Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.

"We've had friends and family members go through it and we just want to be a good resource overall health," he said.

Alzheimer's impacts parts of the brain that control thought, memory, and language. The CDC points to effective ways to reduce the risk of the disease:

  • Don't smoke
  • Get enough sleep
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Exercise

All key points, gym member Kim Maloy says are vital to staying of sound mind and body.

"I think of my grandmother, who became pretty idle and distant from others, it's not only important to stay healthy and keep moving but to also continue to grow that support system," Maloy said.

Building muscle and mental awareness, while unintentionally building that support system that keeps you accountable and thriving.
