The woman who says she's Jesse Wilson’s biological grandmother told 12 News via phone Wednesday that her main concern now is getting justice and "finding out who did this."
Cynthia Lauderdale says a public vigil will be held at the site of Wilson’s former school on Saturday. She says she's hopeful to get Wilson’s remains, but police say they may be released – instead – to the state.
Police confirmed Tuesday that the bones found by a city worker in March belonged to Wilson who's been missing since July of 2016. He was just 10 years old then.
"While this is not the outcome of which we hoped, we want to stress that this is not the end of this investigation." Buckeye police Detective Tamela Skaggs said.
Police have launched a homicide investigation, but haven't said how Wilson died. Authorities say Crystal Wilson – Wilson's adoptive mother – moved out of Arizona and hasn't been ruled out as a suspect.
She called 911 after her son's disappearance.
Wilson's case has captivated the Valley for nearly two years. Police say they will get to the bottom of whatever happened.
"We believe this case will be resolved. And Jesse deserves nothing less," Skaggs said.
But a community that spent months searching for a boy is still left searching for answers.
