PHOENIX — A woman is dead after a crash on Interstate 10 eastbound near the Broadway Curve. Investigators believe that she was walking on the roadway.
The crash happened around 6:17 a.m. Monday morning as a female pedestrian was walking east on I-10 in the Broadway Curve construction project. Officials said three vehicles struck the woman, and she died on the scene.
"One of the vehicles we determined actually fled the scene. The other two vehicles stayed on scene," said a spokesman with DPS. Officials reportedly found the vehicle that drove off after hitting the woman, but not the driver.
Investigators believe that the woman may have been impaired.
The highway was partially closed for several hours, but reopened around 11 a.m., ADOT said.
The deceased woman has been identified as 24-year-old Alejandra Lopez.
