You can’t have a delicious holiday dinner without an equally delicious dessert. There are plenty of iconic winter treats, but one of the most popular foods are gingerbread cookies.
Before the holiday season approaches, team 12’s Paul Gerke takes a moment to share his mother’s gingerbread cookie recipe with our viewers.
If you would like to add this dessert to your next festive family function, here’s the full recipe:
Gerke Family Gingerbread Cookie Recipe (Makes 3-4 dozen)
Cream:
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 cup molasses
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
Add, while mixing:
- 5 cups flour
- 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 tablespoon of ginger
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of cloves
Once mixed thoroughly, preferably by an electric mixer, make into two dough balls. Chill in a refrigerator for 3-4 hours. Remove from the fridge and let it sit for 30 minutes.
Roll out the dough and use cookie cutters. Bake in the oven on a greased cookie sheet for EXACTLY 6 minutes at 375 degrees. Decorate and enjoy!
