SAN DIEGO — A Valley Veteran is making progress in his rehabilitation after a bad snowmobiling accident back in January.
Cody Howard was snowmobiling in Ontario, Canada with his brothers when they crashed into a tree. He ruptured his aorta, went into surgery and was in a coma. When he woke up, he was paralyzed from the legs down.
“I always knew if anybody would be able to walk again it would be Cody,” Howard’s wife, Chante Fox said.
Months later, Howard was transferred to San Diego for rehabilitation, where he began taking steps with a walker.
On Monday, Fox received videos of Howard taking his first steps with crutches.
“Watching Cody take his first steps just makes me so happy for him,” Fox said.
Howard is still fighting other battles, as his large intestine has now been removed.
“He still has a long ways to go but I know he’s motivated and determined to get there which is awesome,” Fox said.
Fox says Howard has goals to get his life back. Specifically looking forward to raising their 1-year-old son, River, running his business and getting back to the outdoors.
“He’s just everyday working hard to come home better,” Fox said. “He’s not going to go out without a fight.”
