GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The Goodyear Police Department's Special Assignment Unit or SWAT team is back on duty after coming to an agreement on compensation with the city, the department announced Monday night.

"We are pleased to share that the Goodyear Police Department's Special Assignment Unit (SAU) is back in service after a brief pause to address a compensation issue," a press release from the department read. "Through communication and collaborative efforts with leadership, the SAU members have returned to their SAU duties as work continues to address their compensation concerns. Public safety was never compromised during this period."

The unit went inactive on Friday due to the compensation negotiation, but they were still employed by the department and continued with their regular duties, city officials told 12News.

Officials said the unit being inactive did not impact the overall safety of the city due to agreements with neighboring agencies to assist.
